Broadband
Definition: A type of data transmission in which a single medium (wire) can carry several channels at once. Cable TV, for example, uses broadband transmission. In contrast, baseband transmission allows only one signal at a time.
Whew, that doesn't explain much does it? This term is often used when referring to high-speed internet connections (broadband access). Broadband Access in our industry generally refers to any internet connection with speeds in excess of 256kb per sec. (A dial-up modem is 56kb per sec) The high-speed internet connection is usually carried on a separate channel than the normal service on that line. For example, ADSL works on a separate channel from voice on your phone line allowing you to be on the phone and connected to the internet at the same time. You can even send and receive Faxes on the same line.
