Enable the Spam Fliter

OVERVIEW OF "JUNK E-Mail":

The junk mail you are receiving is not through TBC Net. What has likely happened is this:  Over a period of time that you've had your email address, you have likely put your email address into surveys, product registrations, free offers, and things along those lines.  Truth is, not every business runs an ethical shop.  Many companies (not TBC) sell that mailing list off to other organizations and companies--some are legit, some aren't.  What happens is that, over time, you get a buildup of more and more mail (as, over time, your address is sold more and more).  This is a similar deal to telemarketing--seems like lately we, as consumers, are getting more and more phone calls from folks trying to sell us things that we're not even interested in!  Why does that happen?  Because companies like to make money off their customers and sell their lists. 

-WHERE DOES TBC NET STAND?

We do not sell our mailing lists!  We respect, highly, our customers and the integrity of their email addresses.  TBC has done its best to put measures into place to cut down on (at least attempt to eliminate) junk mail. 

-WHAT CAN YOU DO? 

Although TBC Net doesn't endorse a specific guideline, recommendation, or suggestion for this matter, we offer the following suggestions/options:

 Enable the Spam Filter

  • OPTION 1: (highly recommended) You can enable the SPAM filter on your email account by clicking here and following the directions.  This will automatically filter most of the SPAM that you get.
     

  • OPTION 2: ~Have us set up a new email address for you.  Don't give this address out to anyone except credible individuals and companies (those companies that you know will not sell your mailing list--they usually notate that somehow on the form you are filling out). 
    ~Set up a free, Web-based email account (i.e, www.yahoo.com, www.hotmail.com, etc.).  Use this email address for things like surveys, "free offers", etc.  You can consider this your own personal "junk mail account".  Check it every once in awhile--you might find something interesting...but the majority of the mail will be junk. 
    ~When completing surveys, registrations, etc., most companies should leave a box you can check or uncheck that says something like "do not release my information to other companies...".  Take advantage of that!
     

  • OPTION 3:
    ~Keep your existing email address and use it as your "junk mail account".  Also, check it every once in awhile--you might find mail from someone that didn't get your new address. 
    ~Have us set up a new email address for you.  Same deal--don't give this address out to anyone except folks that are credible to you. For instructions on how to change your email address, click here.
    ~Again, when completing surveys, utilize that checkbox if it's offered.
     

  • OPTION 4:
    ~Write your congressman and let them know that you would like to see stricter government regulation of unsolicited email. 

Keep in mind that no matter what your email address is, who your ISP is, and who you do or do not give your address to--you're going to get junk mail.  And over time, it just gets worse and worse.  The options outlined above are what you can do, as a consumer, to combat the junk mail problems.  Congress is already beginning to pass legislation to try to help with the Spam epidemic but change will come slowly as Spammers often find a way around the law.
